A hive of activity, the Area 51 CNC Shop is dedicated to supporting MIT students who, in true mens et manus fashion, are getting their hands dirty in all of the best ways.

Originally acquired in 2007 to support student clubs and teams, it’s now a central fabrication facility with CNC milling and lathe machines, an injection molding machine, and a waterjet cutting machine.

Access to the Area 51 CNC Shop (on the ground floor of Building N51 is available to students on Edgerton Center clubs and teams, D-Lab, and to the students, faculty, and staff of the International Design Center (MIT and SUTD), and by others with the express permission of the shop manager, Pat McAtamney
