The Edgerton Center upholds the legacy of Harold “Doc” Edgerton by providing the necessary resources, encouragement, and support for students to gain an education in engineering both in the conventional classroom and particularly outside of it.

We serve MIT students, faculty, and staff; students and teachers in kindergarten through grade 12; and high-speed-imaging professionals.

Whether students use our machine tools to fabricate components for a research project, use our water-jet cutter to fabricate a brake rotor, use our high-speed-imaging equipment to measure the motion of a butterfly wing, or use our curriculum to explain electricity to a fourth-grader, we cultivate an overarching ethos (like our tagline) of building, learning, and sharing.
