Student Shops and Makerspaces

Welcome to the home of MIT's campus-wide makerspaces! The six facilities listed below provide a wide range of training and access to tools for working on your projects: from fabric arts to woodworking, machining, welding, and almost every process and material in between.

The Hobby Shop
The MIT Hobby Shop is a fully equipped wood and metal shop that teaches students the art of thoughtful design and craft

Metropolis
Supporting a variety of making at all levels of experience, Metropolis offers tools ranging from 3D printing to welding and glass flamework in a friendly space supported by expert student mentors and professional staff

Located in the center of campus; here students will find access to a full machine shop with tools and training
