A week long program for rising 9th to 12th grade students
Applications for Extreme Imaging 2025 are now open! Applications will close at 5 PM (EDT) on Friday, June 6. We let applicants know the results by the end of the day on Wednesday, June 11. You can apply here.
Extreme Imaging teaches how to take images that an unaided cell phone cannot capture. Here we push the extremes of time; from the sub-millisecond exposures needed to capture the splash of a milkdrop to the leisurely growth of a snowflake. We push the extremes of space; from macro- and micro-photography to astrophotography. And, we push the extremes of wavelength; the near-UV and near-IR that the phone cannot see.
We primarily accept students from the area around MIT (Cambridge/Boston), and are progressively less likely to accept students the farther they are from campus. Please note we are not a residential program and can not provide housing. Interested students must be at least 14 years old at the start date of the program.
The program will be held in-person from July 21 to 25, 2025.
The program will run from 9:00-3:00, Monday-Friday. Accepted students must be able to attend the entire program. Snacks and a simple lunch will be provided. Family and friends will be invited to the final presentations.
We suggest a donation of $100 to cover material costs. However, we do not take into account a student's ability to pay when choosing who to accept and, if admitted to the program, we will accept payment in whatever amount the student can afford.
Please reach out with any unanswered questions, and we look forward to another great summer!
