The MIT Solar Electric Vehicle Team placed first in the 2021 American Solar Challenge Single-Occupant Vehicle (SOV) Class. Designed and built by a team of MIT students, their vehicle, Nimbus, covered over 1,100 miles during the 5-day event.

Fully powered by the sun, the car maintained an average speed of 38.4 mph in traveling from Independence, MO, to Las Vegas NM. The route commemorates the historic Santa Fe trail, pioneered by William Becknell in 1821.
