MIT Design for America (DFA) was founded in 2012 by a group of students who believed that making a difference shouldn’t have to wait until after graduation.
This guiding thought is the cornerstone of the group’s mission to deliver designs and engineering solutions with a lasting social impact. From 3-D modeling to Arduino, students learn a user-centered design that benefits communities.
And students aren’t limited by their age: they are taught new skills, given opportunities to work on pressing problems, and brought together into a community of like-minded change-makers. DFA students tackle socially relevant problems—from improving patient experiences to alleviating community hunger—and, in the process, develop the empathy, creativity, and passion needed to succeed in life.
